I started my career working for HM Revenue & Customs, a role that gave me a detailed insight into their systems and procedures whilst taking me to various locations around the UK.
I trained professionally in the City of London with the prestigious top 15 accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1993.
Returning north to raise two daughters, I worked for a large independent practice in Derbyshire and after 13 years moved on to become a partner in Gordon & Hood, an accountancy firm which specialised in the medical and dental professions.
On the back of this specialist experience, I decided to set up Cathy Tew Associates as I believe this is the most effective way of providing the dedicated financial and business development service required by the healthcare and dental professions. This guarantees my clients will always have the same person with whom to discuss their business and therefore will be fully versed with each client’s specific financial affairs.
I relish the opportunity of lecturing to healthcare professionals and provide lectures on a regular basis.
Honorary roles, such as serving as a school governor, treasurer for an after school club and being a committee member for the Sheffield branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, have all provided me with an enjoyable and invaluable insight into non mainstream finance arenas.
I am also an active member of ASPD (Association of Specialist Providers to Dentists); a network of professionals who specialise in providing services to the dental profession. I presently hold the role of membership secretary within ASPD.
Our accountancy practice focuses solely on the financial requirements of healthcare professionals in small business, including hospital consultants & doctors, pathologists, locum GPs, principal dentists, associate dentists, dental hygienists and dental therapists.
We firmly believe that such a specialist sector requires a bespoke and personable service over and above that offered by the traditional accountant. In providing a one-to-one consultancy and fostering strong professional relationships, we can create an incisive picture of our client, their situation and ultimately their individual requirements, allowing me to tailor-make targeted solutions for all their financial and business development needs.
Our expert knowledge of the healthcare professions means I can comprehend the complex terminology used and, through an understanding of the pressures already placed on our client’s time, ease their financial concerns enabling them to stay focused on their specialities.
I am Cathy’s husband and devote a large proportion of my working time assisting Cathy in the business.
I prepare the Accounts for limited companies, principal dentists and GP practices as well as having an administrative role.
Previously, I have worked in both the West End of London and Sheffield as an accountant and auditor within private accountancy practices.
I have vast experience dealing with various business sectors including professional football clubs, actors and actresses, West End theatre productions, theatre companies, manufacturing companies, solicitors and funeral directors.
I currently also have a part time position in the finance section within local government.
Since working alongside Cathy from inception of the business, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of the medical and dental professions.
